President Xi visited Gujarat state of India on Sept 7th. Accompanied by Indian Prime Minister Modi, Xi visited the former residence of Gandhi, the famous religious leader of India and the development project of the Bank Garden. Reviewing the past and expecting the future, the leaders exchanged views over important issues concerning the development of both countries.

国家主席习近平17日在印度古吉拉特邦进行访问。在印度总理莫迪陪同下参观了甘地故居和河岸公园发展项目，追昔抚今，展望未来，共话两国关系发展和共同关心的重要问题。

President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan received warm welcome by Modi when they arrived at their accommodation hotel. Modi expressed his warm welcome to Xi’s visit of India and suggested that the first place Xi shall visit would be his home state, Gujarat and the people in Gujarat would be much honored to have Xi there.

习近平和夫人彭丽媛抵达下榻宾馆时，受到莫迪热情迎接。莫迪热烈欢迎习近平到访。莫迪表示，习近平主席访问印度第一站，就来到我的家乡古吉拉特邦，古吉拉特邦人民感到非常荣幸。

“This July, we had a good talk at Brazil, Xi said he felt that we were like old friends at the first meeting and I agreed. I proposed that China and India are like ‘two bodies in one mind’ and it became very popular in India. China and India share the same objective and I could see both countries cooperating to a better future. Putting together the initials of China and India we’ll get ‘INCH’ (which is a length unit) and to welcome President Xi, I specially wrote on a paper that we should push our relations from ‘INCH’ to ‘Mile’”.

今年7月，我们在巴西会晤时谈得很好，习近平主席说我们两人一见如故，我也有同感。我提出印中两国是“两个身体、一种精神”，这句话在印度广为流传。印中两国有着相同发展抱负，完全可以加强合作。印中两国国名英文头两个字母拼写在一起，就是“英寸”(INCH）一词。为欢迎习近平主席访问印度，我专门在印度报纸上发表文章，提出两国应该以“从英寸到英里”的精神推动印中关系向前发展。

That afternoon, Xi visited the former residence of Gandhi, accompanied by Modi. Modi introduced to Xi about the life of Gandhi and his fighting stories in the photograph exhibition. At the living room of Gandhi, Modi told Xi the poor and simple lifestyle of Gandhi and given Xi a hand-spinned cotton item representing the “Gandhiism” and the spirit of peace and industry. In the end, President Xi also spinned the spinning wheel Gandhi used.

当天下午，习近平在莫迪陪同下参观甘地故居。在甘地图片展室，莫迪向习近平介绍甘地生活和斗争经历。习近平向甘地铜像敬撒花瓣。在甘地居室，莫迪介绍了甘地清贫简朴的生活方式，向习近平赠送象征着“甘地主义”和平勤劳精神的手纺棉纱条。习近平亲自摇动甘地曾经使用过的纺车。

Modi presented Xi books of Gandhi and posters of then southern-Africa Chinese supporting Gandhi. Xi pointed out that the people of China and India has helped and supported each other in the fight against colonialism and gaining national independence and we shall uphold that spirit and carry forward.
莫迪向习近平赠送关于甘地的书籍和当年南非华人支持甘地的海报。习近平指出，中印两国人民在反对殖民主义、争取民族独立的斗争中相互同情、相互支持，结下深厚友情。我们要把它传承下去，发扬光大。
