Chinese leaders urge all-out efforts to save injured in Tianjin blasts

BEIJING - Huge explorations hit an industrial area in Tianjin late on Wednesday. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have urged all-out efforts to save the injured and minimize casualties in the Tianjin blasts.

北京-12日晚，天津一工业区内的仓库发生爆炸，国家主席习近平和国家总理李克强作出重要指示，要求全力救治伤员。

In an instruction, President Xi ordered local authorities in Tianjin to spare no effort to treat the injured, search for the missing and contain the fire. Xi and Li also commanded a work group led by Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun to direct rescue operation and emergency response.

在指示中，习近平总理命令天津当地机关不遗余力地救治伤员，寻找失联人员和控制火力。习近平主席和李克强总理还命令公安部长郭胜坤派遣紧急救援组到场救助。

The blasts, which occurred at a warehouse in the north China port city on Wednesday night, have killed 17 people and injured more than 400 as of Thursday morning, according to rescuers.

周三晚上这场爆炸发生在中国北部一港口城市的仓库，据救援人员反应，截止到今天早上已有17人死亡，400多人受伤。

In the instruction, Xi noted that the cause of the fire must be found out, family members of the victims should be taken good care of while public order should be maintained. Xi added search and rescue missions must be carried out in an appropriate way to guarantee the safety of the rescuers.

在指示中，习近平强调指出爆炸原因必须查明，照顾好受害者的家属，同时保持公共秩序。习近平还指出搜救小组必须以适当的方式进行，以此来确保搜救人的安全。

Xi also urged governments at all levels to draw a lesson from the accident, insist on the paramount interests of the people, carry out safety checks, enhance their management of dangerous chemicals, ensure production safety and protect the people’s lives and property.

习近平还督促各级政府要从事故中吸取教训，坚持人民的最高利益，进行安全检查，加强对危险化学品的管理，确保生产安全，保障人民生命财产安全。

Premier Li urged authorities to intensify search and rescue. He required that the injured should be treated properly to minimize death from injuries.

李克强总理督促相关机关加强搜救工作。他要求受伤人员应该得到适当处理，降低伤亡人数。

Li also vowed thorough investigation in the accident and ensure open and transparent information disclosure to the public.

李总理还将对这起事故进行彻底调查，确保公开透明的信息公开给公众。
