British farmer’s Chinese antique collection cost as little as £100 each - but sells for 50m Pound

A British farmer’s collection of Chinese antiques he picked up for as little as 100 pound each has sold for a massive 45.9 million Pound at auction .

Roger Pilkington put together an array of 100 pieces of Chinese ceramics during the 1950s and 1960s.

During that time Mr Pilkington, who died in 1969 aged just 40, acquired cache of artifacts from the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties.

The value of Asian antiques has shot up in recent years as the newly-rich Chinese set about buying back their heritage which was taken out of the far east by westerners in the 19th century.

The sale was held by auctioneers Sotheby’s in Hong Kong to capitalise on the Asian market.

The bowl is so rare that many of the world’s greatest collections in museum lack an example.
